Doctrine is the teaching of the Church. The Church should teach the Bible. The Bible was given as God’s revelation to man. It is the foundation of the Church. We are required to study it and understand it’s precepts. It is embarrassing to hear a Christian state something as coming from Jesus or the Bible when it really came from one of the various Nostradamus books. It is even more embarrassing to hear famous talk show hosts make these same type of statements.
2Tim. 2:15. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
I remember the Most Reverend Jesse Jackson stating that our foreign policy must be to “turn the other cheek.” This statement indicates that the Reverend Jackson does not understand the first principle of Bible interpretation – CONTEXT. The command of Jesus to “turn the other cheek” was given to God fearing individuals when dealing with other individuals. “Bear not the sword in vain” would have been the appropriate quote in the context of Government.
Let me recommend a simple and excellent book to help you learn doctrine. It is Ryrie’s A Survey of Bible Doctrine. I have included a study guide for you to download that has all the scripture looked up for you. No excuses. Want to be a Disciple? Learn Doctrine so you don’t have to be ashamed or cause your brothers and sisters to be ashamed on your behalf.
Very nice, Lloyd. That’s the first time I’ve seen a doctrinal outline with all the verses spelled out. It will be a useful tool to me as I do some discipling here.
Thanks again.
Thanks Erik,
Nice to talk to someone who has actually looked at my website. I nearly selected all and marked as spam.
You understand, of course, that you are free to download these files and put your own commentary in them.
Lord Bless you as you study His Word.
